Anomalies also known as wormholes are a known physical force within the Alternate Universe. They often appear in various places throughout Devonshire, but have also occurred in other countries. The mechanism is not known, because of how random they are.

Several species not known from Europe, such as the Devonshire Bristlehead, may have evolved from a Bornean Bristlehead ancestor.
