Tringinae is a subfamily of birds in the Scolopacidae family. It contains the shanks, phalaropes, the Terek Sandpiper, willets, and tattlers.
Taxonomy[edit]
Based on Černý and Natale (2021), the genus Tringa has been split into three genera, which were previously considered subgenera:[1]
- Tringa is restricted to the Green and Solitary Sandpipers.
- The two tattlers are transferred to genus Heteroscelus.
- The remaining Tringa sandpipers are placed in genus Totanus.
